The wedding reception - jan 24

I love the number 23 because of Kirk Gibson.

The previous statement has nothing to do with this photo.

Which is epic.

But this photo represents January 24th, so forget the whole 23 thing.

Owls - Jan23

Everyone loves owls.
Even the Mitten Bar, a fabulous joint in Ludington, MI.

7 Monks in Traverse City, Michigan. - Jan 22

This type of glass is called a snifter. The beer it holds is called "Brother Benjamin" from Greenbush.
A shot similar to this will be in the Michigan Beer Film.

I'm finishing up the edit of these photos and this photo is just one of many that I find a lot of joy in.

Happy day.

Snow coming down over the barn.

This is a photo I took 2 weeks ago that I'm shamelessly using for my photo of the day today.

His name is Joe Short. Jan 19

I'm currently working on a documentary film about the explosive growth of the microbrewing industry in the state of Michigan. Shorts Brewing Co in the tiny town of Bellaire, MI (just a few miles from Torch Lake) is the fastest growing beverage company in the United States.

First impression: We arrive at Shorts around 7pm to soak in the scenery, listen to some music and shoot some b-roll of the place. Joe was walking around the place with a delicious looking pizza in his hand, trying to find the table of customers that it belonged to.

The owner and founder of the fastest growing beverage company in the United States, walking around humbly to deliver a pizza to a patron.

I knew we were going to enjoy our time with Joe.

Also, he is currently sporting an EPIC 'stache.

For more info on our Trip to Shorts, check in with our Michigan Beer Film Blog.

The Café - Jan 14

This is cafe 237. The owner and head chef recently passed away after a long bout with cancer. He was an amazing chef and he will be greatly missed in the community of Paw Paw.

The cupcake rack.

This was taken at the Kalamazoo Wedding Affair at the Rose Street Market in downtown Kalamazoo.
I was shooting the event for the fine people at Kalamazoo Bride, who host the annual event.

Fatherhood

This is Linden. My sister in law's brother in law.
He's from Trinidad and Tobago and I really like him.
Here he is checking out the snowfall and keeping his little man warm.

technicolor + jeremy

most of these were shot at 4 second shutter speed.

this is my good buddy and the newest full time member of Rhino Media Productions, Jeremy Angeletti.
He's one handsome fella.

I simply wanted to see how much I could play with a dragged shutter and shooting wide open.
In post, I attempted to try a variety of color gradings. The slow shutter is the primary reason for his lack of expression. He's actually a really happy guy.

Only the second day of the year and I'm already doing a flippin collage.

"the lake is low" and other announcements.

I've challenged myself to another 365 project. I last did this in 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of getting behind a camera every day even just for a few minutes. As my company, Rhino Media Productions, has grown, ironically I rarely practice photography these days.

In addition to this, I am announcing that I will be going quasi solo as a photographer, and Rhino Media will no longer be providing photography.

If you've followed Rhino Media Productions from the beginning, this may not surprise you much.
We began with humble intentions of shooting wedding photo and video as a combo and now we've expanded into a diverse visual media/video production team in the state of Michigan.

The exciting part for me is I can continue to practice photography on the side and shoot weddings, etc.

So here is the first photo of 2013. It's a shot of a boat that is sitting on a bed of iced over muddy water.

Nothing terribly exciting, but at the same time.. I'm very excited.
